Spring is just around the corner for those of us in the northern hemisphere!
The Spring is a time of renewal, when the energy that has been resting and collecting during winter, has built up the momentum to literally spring forth. Dormant plants and animals begin to emerge, as energy moves from a contracted state to a more expansive one.
Our bodies follow this pattern as well. The Spring is ruled by the Wood Element which governs the Liver.
The Wood of the Liver is rising and expanding along with the plants outside. This can overstimulate the Liver causing health challenges such as:
* Irritability and anger
* Headaches and migraines
* Rashes and skin eruptions
* Depression
* Digestive issues (bloating, indigestion, heartburn)
* Worsening of PMS or female health issues
* Insomnia
A few tips for keeping your Liver happy!
1. The Wood Element is represented by the color green, so we want to eat green foods such as leafy greens, asparagus, broccoli, parsley, sprouts, etc. Sour foods are the flavor of the Wood element, so we also want to incorporate sour foods into the diet such as vinegar, pickles, and sauerkraut.
2. Tap and brush the upper right abdomen. This is the location of the Liver!! Tapping helps to free stuck energy while brushing helps to move the energy. Try this when you’re feeling irritable or angry.
3. Do some spring cleaning and let go of what no longer serves. Since this is the season of renewal, it is a time for taking in the new and releasing the old.
4. Try using lavender, peppermint, or citrus essential oils. Lavender resonates with the wood element, so try putting some on your hands while tapping the liver. Peppermint and citrus oils are uplifting and help combat stagnation. Try using these when you feel stuck, heavy, or tired.
